Welcome to Chocolat Vitale!

We are hosting San Francisco band The Family Crest for an in-store performance on Saturday, January 21 at 2pm. They are on a 31 day residency in Seattle, during which they plan to play at least 31 shows. Here they are performing on the Monorail:

The Family Crest began as a collaborative recording project in 2008 with a vision to change the way music is made. Gathering friends, fans, musicians, and non-musicians alike, the group began to record songs in bars, churches, streets, and other unconventional locations. Their collaborative approach quickly grew steam, evolving into a seven-piece orchestral indie rock band with over 250 ‘Extended Family Members’ participating in recordings, live performances, and media projects.


The Family Crest’s debut EP, Songs from the Valley Below, and live performances have created a buzz within the Bay Area, drawing acclaim from the blogosphere, radio waves, and journalists. Highlights include sold-out performances at favorite Bay Area venues including Fox Theater Oakland, Cafe Du Nord, and Bottom of the Hill.


Backstory:  Members of the band stopped in our store in Ballard (they are big chocolate and coffee connoisseurs), and we had just heard them perform live the day before on KEXP! Because of their interest in chocolate, and to help them reach their 31 show goal, we thought it would be great to have them here.

Enjoy the fall pumpkin harvest with these delicious cookies, using Chocolat Vitale Semi-Sweet Baking Chocolate!



Chocolate Chip and Pumpkin Cookies

Prep time: 15 min   Cooking time: 20-25 min

· 8 oz pumpkin, seeded
· 1 stick (1/2C) unsalted butter, softened
· 1/2C superfine sugar
· 1 egg
· 1 1/4C old-fashioned oatmeal
· 1C self-rising flour
· 3 1/2 oz Chocolat Vitale Semi-Sweet Baking Chocolate
· confectioners sugar for dusting

1. Grease two baking sheets. Cut away the skin from
the pumpkin and finely grate the flesh.

2. Beat together the butter and sugar until creamy. Beat in the grated
pumpkin, then the egg, oatmeal, flour, and chocolate chips.

3. Place teaspoonfuls of the mixture on the baking sheets and
flatten them slightly with the back of a spoon.
Bake in a preheated oven at 350ºF for about 20-25 minutes
until risen and pale golden. Leave on the baking sheets for
2 minutes then transfer to a wire rack to cool.
Dust lightly with the confectioner’s sugar.

Makes about 25 cookies

Our European Drinking Chocolate is made from the finest ingredients and in small batches. We are located in Seattle, WA, where chocolate is challenging coffee as the reigning hot drink.

Try our signature flavor, European Classic, with a 49% cacao content, or our flavors, Chocolate Espresso, Chocolate Raspberry and Orange Spice. For dark chocolate lovers, we have Venezuelan Black, with a 65% cacao content.

Our drinking chocolate contains no cocoa powder, just Swiss and Belgian style chocolate. It is truly the Drink of the Gods!
